Richard has 27 years’ experience as an air traffic controller, and has worked as a full-time instructor for the past four years, delivering a wide range of courses for both ab initio and experienced controllers. During Richard’s career as a controller he provided on-the-job instruction, including holding standards and checking roles, and was involved in procedure development and associated training. Richard is now gaining experience delivering Airways training courses virtually, through the Airways Knowledge Online (AKO) aviation training academy.

This panel presents a case study of Airways NZ and GCAA, UAE working together to deliver 051 virtually using AKO (Airways virtual academy). Hear from both ANSPs, the instructor, the student and the regulator. Our speakers will step through how they identified the training needs in this virtual world to create a mutually beneficial training program and overcoming regulatory issues.
